Chapter One: “Know thy self”“In the beginning, there was the beginning and we haven’t reached the end yet.” The words still echo in the mind of my child. I was there when she was born but now looking at her she has not yet realized the repercussions of her actions. Mindy always wanted to be a computer programmer ever since she was young. She loved taking things apart and sometimes putting them back together. We once gave her a vacuum cleaner that she proceeded to take apart but was never able to put it back together. She found joy in the destruction of something to get a chance to look inside.“Why does this work?” was her favorite question. Not ‘how’ does this work but why. It was a plastic vacuum that would make the little plastic balls inside the chamber rattle around. So interested was she with the connection between the resistance of the push and the noises they made, she needed to know more.Looking at her now, she is attempting to answer her own questions. We haven’t seen her in twenty-six years but we remember the last time we saw her: She was going off to travel amongst the stars in the newly designed spaceship by “Enterprise Industries.” ‘EI’, as it was aptly named by the media, was the company that won the bid with her home planet to be the first to leave the galaxy and it spared no expense. “We go so you don’t have to” was their tagline. An admirable statement for a private company. Working at EI allowed Mindy to meet the smartest minds on the planet regardless if they worked there or not. EIwas the hub of all other companies because of the services it offered. “Anything you need, we got it.”“I’m worried about her”“Why?”“That is exactly what she used to say”“You worry too much about her. She is strong and knows what she is doing”“I know, I know. It’s just I get the feeling that I need to call her and ask how she is doing and ask if everything is okay.”“You know we can’t do that right? The communication channels we have cannot travel faster than the speed of light, so even if we tried to send a message she wouldn’t get it for two thousand and twenty years.”“She tried to explain it to me once in laymen’s terms but I still can’t wrap my mind around it.”“Okay, stand right there. While I walk away from you, turn around, and walk back.”

“Since I moved relative to you I slowed my own time down by putting myself in motion”
